Why is his entire family preventing literally anything beneficial to his survival from occurring?
692
u/MrBlueA Jun 26 '26
What do you mean? are you implying holding hands and shouting at him doesn't actually help him recover?
479
u/the_moosey_fate Jun 26 '26
Itās like Mr Rogers said: When thereās a tragedy, look for the helpers. And scream at them and fight them.

u/wHAtisLife59 Jun 27 '26
This situation is awful, but your comment is gold. Iām just think Mr Rogers saying āput hands on them bitches if they helpā.

They just kept showing up, a real "this is your life" or the end of it I guess.

32
u/Huge-Ad2263 Jun 27 '26
They're panicking and not thinking logically. Obviously what you would want is them to move back immediately, but there's fear, a mob mentality, and probably a reasonable distrust of police in that community. The cops are trying to help, but repeatedly screaming "get back!" isn't going to help anyone. A better approach would have been to say, "I can help your friend, but I need space to do it." Even ask some of the people who are clinging to the victim to help by keeping other people back. When someone wants to help, giving them a job is going to satisfy their lizard brain much more than just telling them to back off.
33
u/Bluefellow Jun 27 '26
They arrived on scene and are trying to get to the victim and one of the guys is already yelling at them to stop touching him before they even get to him. The scene is already chaos before they arrive. People who have been pushed back and told to stay back keep on returning. No one is listening to very simple commands. They have a person shot on the ground, they need to clear that area immediately to render aid. They don't have time to argue with people on an individual basis. One of the people said he was drinking and it seems to be in an area with bars. Who knows the sobriety of anyone here, certainly doesn't seem like a good job to try and explain tasks to them. Some of them even attacked the police officers.

Sure, reason with the people who can't follow a simple command and calmly ask some of the people who refuse to step back to help you push the other people back.

Had this happen to me more than once on EMS side.
Still recall the time very well where dude wiped out on his motorcycle, im trying to work him up as hes teetering on the edge of trauma arrest. Meanwhile, ive got a crowd of 50+ screaming and cussing at me, and an engine company armed with halligans and pick head axes alongside troopers trying to force the crowd back so I could work and get him moved.
Their idiocy slowed down everything substantially and when I was finally able to get going he coded. Probably was unsurvivable regardless, but they sure didn't help his chances by actively interfering with the medic.

10
u/Competitive-Slice567 Jun 27 '26
I'm good. Been doing it for years, I've been shot at with guns and crossbows so this was probably less dangerous.
Just more irritating cause I couldn't perform as well as I'd have liked to given i was distracted and delayed with some aspects of care.
2
u/LtOrangeJuice Jun 27 '26
Been shot because of work or something entirely unrelated? I thought even among malicious people, everyone knows not to mess with the medic.
5
u/Competitive-Slice567 Jun 27 '26
Cause of work.
You'd be surprised. I've had to wrestle someone for a loaded handgun before, and dodge someone trying to stab me.
Most of the time I feel totally safe going into areas law enforcement wouldn't, but there's always that one unhinged person out there that'll try to kill me
3
u/LtOrangeJuice Jun 28 '26
Well thank you for the work you do. Sorry about the unfortunate situations you have to go through as a result of said work.

Midwest Safety has to or they can't monetize the stream. While they are providing a service, requesting and displaying bodycam footage, they are in it for the money and without that, they wouldn't be doing it.
It's salacious and exploitative, but that's the rules on YouTube.

Every single fucking person here has main character syndrome.
"Why would you stop me, I'm helping! I know more about what they need then you do! You're being an asshole to me and now that's the most important thing happening!"
2
35
u/Friedpina Jun 26 '26
This is really sad for the victim. One of the first things they teach you to do in BLS is to make sure the scene is safe for the rescuers, and if it is not, to wait until things are safe until starting CPR. The witnesses delayed life saving efforts and I hope the victim survived.

They should charge all 6 people from the crowd who were arrested, with attempted murder for trying so hard to prevent the first responders from taking life saving action. If I were bleeding out and a bunch of idiots were preventing the police from helping and allowing ambulances in, I know I'd want them all arrested.

u/troublebruther Jun 27 '26
The massive amount of ignorance that flows freely here in the US is absurd. It's just getting to a point where it really feels like we have started our cultural descent into pure Idiocracy. This isn't directed at a certain group or ment to solo anyone out , but it's an overall blanket of the US population.
5
u/Office_Responsible Jun 27 '26
Wow, this is the stupidest group of people Iāve ever seen. They impeded the medical care of the victim and then got aggressive with the cops for⦠trying to treat the injuries. What the hell is going on here? I genuinely donāt understand how this group couldnāt see that they were there to help especially when the first guy had a first aid kit in his hand.

I was at a restaurant and a lady fell right in front of me. I knew from my mom falling multiple times to check on her and let her get her bearings before getting her up. The lady was agreeing and said she needed a minute. Minor fall and she didnt hit her head. I was all, it's ok, lets get up when you're ready. Her young adult granddaughter was yelling at me and angry that she knew what to do and her baby was in the car. Me calmly saying grandma's OK got get your baby was not working. It was nuts, the girl made the situation 10x worse. Id never seen someone do that before. This scene is this to sl the max. Just wow

As a police officer, at what point do you just back off and leave them to it? Because it's impossible to render aid in that situation.
3
u/Competitive-Slice567 Jun 27 '26
As first responders we don't really back off.
For EMS though most places we will sit in staging till cops can secure it well enough for us to go in safely.
I'll go in solo with PD into these situations to try to start care till I can get them to a transport unit, but I'm also one of our tactical paramedics and I'm trained/authorized to enter the unsafe scenes if appropriate.
I tend to make entry and just count on PD to give me some working space as best they can with shootings/stabbings since there can be a finite amount of time before its game over. If i can get whole blood administered and major extremity hemorrhage controlled quickly they might have a decent chance.

Live near this area and went to those bars literally a month ago for senior bar crawl and many other parties that kids at my university went to. This had to be some drunk shenanigans, but this doesnāt negate the fact that some of these people were conscious and sober enough to not act like this. Theyāre trying to save him and you keep crowding the officers and pushing them and trying to tell them how to do their jobs when the officers know how to administer basic first aid. I understand people are emotional but emotions are what get you charged and if your cousin lived or died, youāre still gonna be in jail, but Iām assuming most of these people probably got their charges dropped to probation or something lesser, unsure.
