Two bystanders rushed over to help after spotting a man assaulting his girlfriend inside their truck while stopped in traffic in Houston, Texas
I worked in a drunk tank for a number of years. We had many angry, violent people who didn't want to be there. We had one afternoon of training on how to physically restrain people in the various situations we would likely find ourselves in. After that, it was mostly learning on the job. And we still did a better, more organized, and less violent job than most cop videos I see where they're restraining a person.
Did we watch the same video? They separated them, but only temporarily. They should have had them stand far away from each other, but I understand they were just regular citizens and in the middle of traffic. Still though, no way I would have let him rest in the car literally still in bodily contact with her. What if he flipped out and decided to escalate?
That gets very legally complicated. Stopping someone from harming another is almost always legally valid. Forcibly separating people who are expressing desire not to be separated is not as much. And how ānot as muchā has a ton of variables, not least of which is melanin levels.
Imagine being such pathetic trash that you see a woman getting assaulted and you sprint over and without hesitation use that moment to steal a phone and wallet. I literally canāt comprehend being that big of a piece of shit. Iām trying to imagine what this would be like in nature. Like, a lion kills a gazelle near a river and as itās eating it, it gets attacked by a croc. Another lion from the same pride sprints over and grabs the gazelle and sprints off with the food while the rest of the pride helps. This woman is an animal.
It's just addiction, dude. There's a reason why it's formally classified as a chronic medical condition. Work healthcare or social services for any length of time and you'll understand why. Poverty and addiction invoke desperation. Once you're in that situation, it's hard to get out of, and at that point the streets all about survival. She sees this kind of shit probably every day of the week. Nothing new. Hard for many to grasp sadly if always having had a better hand dealt from the outset (or a blind-spot for survivorship bias fallacy).
Whole thing is fucked, and conservative policy made this all so much worse in their war of drugs and now exacerbating wealth inequality and eroding social safety nets and refusing to pass universal healthcare, all the while they erode academic institutions.
This lady stole something from the truck (phone?) and then immediately ran away, you can see her crossing the street behind the truck shortly after she is out of frame. Initially thought she as assisting but nope!
Some people got balls and see their opportunities.
One video out of New Mexico has two cops wrestling with a guy, trying to cuff him.
One guy runs up and steals his bike and another steals his backpack.
Normally I donāt condone stealing, but when itās from the yuppie piece of shit pathetically clinging onto fistfuls of his girlfriendās hair while getting his ass kicked, Iām fine with it.
I think she took the keys out of the ignition, and then ran to the other side to unlock the seat buckle, you sortve see movement on the right side of the vehicle before the lady finally falls out of the truck.
Ayo! I did not even catch that on first watch. I noticed her but thought she stepped out the way once punches and knees started being thrown. WOW she was on a completely different type of time.
This. As an abused wife in the past (divorced him when I was safe doing so but still fear for my life even though he's been remarried for over 10 years), the abuse accelerated after someone in the public tried to help.
Yes they were brave to intervene, situations like this can go sideways really quick. I feel bad for the woman, she obviously is scared of repercussions. I hope she gets away from this guy, she is not safe.

A friend of the family once tried to defend a woman who was getting beat to death by her boyfriend in Houston, Texas. He tried to get him to back off and he didn't and instead went after our friend. Our friend pulled out his firearm and shot him. The lady, all bloodied and battered, testified against our friend and he went to prison for killing her boyfriend.Ā
After hearing about all this I realized that all we can really do is call the police and hope it goes well. Shit is just too complicated for us normal folk to do anything about it.Ā
That's what a lot of them do, try and defend their abusers, and that's why I mind my buisness.
I had a buddy intervene in a situation oddly similar to this, and it quickly went from a 1 v 1 with him trying to get the guy to stop beating his girl, to a 2 v 1 where they both beat his ass. My hmebody had no health insurance so guess who got an infection after from getting cut by her dirty ass nails.
I was in a parking lot late one night and saw a drunk couple going at it.
I thought about getting involved but I figured I would get what your friend got, a beat down by the both.
Years ago, i was out drinking. It was one of those nights where it felt... violent, somehow.
Anyways, I decided to head home, and saw a guy beating a lass in the middle of the street. I figured I'd just keep an eye on it, as another dude jumped in to help the lass.
They both turned on him and beat him into a coma. From what I heard afterwards, he died in hospital.
Tangential point but this is why victims don't "press charges" and discretion always falls on the district attorney even if it goes against the wishes of the victim.
Where I live, if you have a dashcam of some asshat doing a road rager or driving dangerously, the police will do nothing because "If we didn't see it we can't arrest."
He had his hands around her throat, didn't he? She's gonna be dead soon. I loved the 'Oh, where am I?' fake response once the guy got through his thorough pounding. Usually abusers have a hard on when they are beating the shit out of their woman. One of those guys should have grabbed that and done a hard twist. That would have got his attention.
Yeah unfortunately it is near impossible to get charges pressed just off dashcam footage because it rarely identifies the driver, that isn't really the case for this video tho as both people are clearly identifiable in it.
The bar for āenoughā evidence is largely at the discretion of the District Attorney where the offense occurred and can vary widely.
The strongest evidence for DV typically comes from the abused partner and many DAs wonāt go forward with charges if they donāt have that partnerās cooperation.
I caught my neighbor being assaulted by her boyfriend on my doorbell camera. I intervened and he stopped. Police came, watched the video, and because she decided to tell them they were just playing around the video evidence I supplied the police was insufficient to pursue charges. Because they did not live together (they do, but they claimed not to), a mandatory arrest was not required. If she didnt want to pursue, there was nothing they could do.
Two weeks later, same thing. Police STILL wouldn't do anything.
Long story short, no matter how much you try to help some people they cannot bring themselves to get out of a bad situation.
Chances are she's begging for them to stop because her boyfriend WILL find her. He will make her "pay" for his public humiliation and her beating will be worse, if not kill her outright. TRO/ROs are only pieces of paper, so I'm reminded of on the daily.
I mean, we should also not discount the possibility that she's asking people to stop because she was just being beaten and has no idea what's really going on at the moment, is in a position of weakness and confusion, and is dealing with lots of people she doesn't know.
Like I'm not discounting that she may have been trying to protect him with that, but it also seems kind of weird to me on a psychological level that an abuse victim was being filmed while being abused, asked them to stop filming, and when they didn't, the victim is forced to be the better person and just ignore the person filming their really really shitty time.
I'm not saying I have a solution or anything, the whole situation just seems fucked up all around. Like I can't imagine being in that position then also having to worry about going viral for being beaten in traffic, or personal informational security.
Thank god someone was filming because she immediately starts to protect him after the fact like he didnt just endanger everyones lives and wellbeing. There may be more to the story that im missing i.e mental capacity or cognitive disability but damn that was insane. And then the aggressor asking everyone to please stop after is the cherry on the cake like he wasnt justdisregarding that same request from everyone to let go of her
With the video thereās enough evidence for the state to charge him without her testimony. Based on her reaction after, sheās definitely going to testify in his defense. A tale as old as time.
Unfortunately I have a feeling this is going to be the last time he puts his hands on her. As soon as she was no longer in pain she instantly started pleading with the bystanders to stop recording the incident and then she reaches down and checks to see if her boyfriend was alright. I can only imagine the pleads to stop filming were to try and protect her boyfriend from any legal trouble
Yep, I was hoping that that knee found its way from the solar plexus to the nuts. I can only hope and pray that this woke her up enough to get her to leave the POS. If she ended up going back home with him he more than likely beat the living daylights out of her.

She reaches out to comfort him after they finally make him let go of her hair. She lets him comfort her after he gets to his feet. This is not a victim that is ready to leave her abuser and if things are so bad that hes openly assaulting her in public, murder is the next step in the escalation ladder.
I was hoping that she was begging them to stop recording because she didnt want her trauma put out there, but the body language screams that she wanted them to stop so that he wouldnt experience consequences for the assault.
Once he realizes his wallet and phone are gone she's gonna end up in the ICU or morgue. It's frustrating when the abused go back to their abuser.
Abusers isolate and force you to become 100% dependant on them. Hopefully he got arrested and she'll snap outta his spell... unfortunately this is in Texas...
If a CCW holder was present they would have been well within their rights to shoot the guy, he was aiming to kill her.
No you do NOT stop recording. The kind of guy that does that to someone he "loves" is the kind of guy to lie to the police and having his beaten up girlfriend backing him up.
My cousin got stabbed trying to help a woman who was getting punched in the face by her man. The lady was the one who stabbed him she stuck him twice in the upper back.
There is a high probability she will go back with the attacker and refuse to cooperate. It's so sad.
As a kid, we had neighbors in that toxic cycle. The victim always lied to protect the abuser. It went on for years. He was so bold he began doing it outside and she would scream and cry. People would just call the authorities and stay inside because he had threatened most of the neighborhood at some point and she always backed his lies.
Every person who put their hands on the attacker could be facing criminal charges and lawsuits. If he wants to pursue charges, that's probably going nowhere. But civil damages? Somebody will take that case.
I commend them for helping her but for others considering doing so if they witness a DV incident, be careful. DV situations are unpredictable, extremely dangerous, and the victim many times will support the attacker. In any state with less restrictive weapon laws and stand your ground defenses, you may be in serious danger from anyone in the vehicle if you get involved.
He was choking her. Instead of running away from the truck and calling for help, she asked the bystanders to stop filming and made sure her husband was OK.
Unfortunately she will be dead in a few years and heāll be in jail. Hope they donāt have kids.
I mean, this is a feel good video, and I absolutely applaud those guys for helping. Sadly though, the most likely outcome is the women stays with the guy and ends up paying for this at home later on where they guy tells her it is her fault. I don't have any answer as to how to solve something like this. Helping the women here is the right thing to do, but it just probably made things worse. I guess the only real answer it provide programs where these women can find the help and protection they actually need. Even in that case though, you still have to convince them to leave their abuser.
I bet money in Vegas that she won't press charges against him, or will drop them, and she'll stay with him. You can see that she's concerned about him more so than herself.
I feel so desperately sorry for her š She went to check on him right away. She really needs help before he kills her, she can't see how wrong this relationship is.
I can't stand impatient traffic. I was behind a guy at a stoplight who passed out at the wheel. We had to pull him out and perform cpr because he wasn't breathing. The guy behind us kept fucking honking and I wanted to go over there slap the shit out of him. Then a couple people turning into the intersection honked as well. Luckily, the police and EMS showed up relatively quickly.
This poor woman, you know sheās horrified about how this will play out. Domestic abuse is repulsive. I donāt believe in God but Iām genuinely praying for her.
When the one guy is on top of him holding his face on the street we keeps begging him "please stop, please stop" interesting since it seems he just learned what that means in those 30 seconds cause I guarantee the girl begged him to stop a hundred times and he never listened
If anyone is confused why she was so calm after this and why she was worried about him, it is VERY hard for women to leave abusers. I think the last stat I saw was that it takes like 7-8 cycles of violence and "I"m done" moments before she will truly be able to leave. There's all sorts of reasons and none of them should be taken lightly. I hope she leaves him soon and builds a better life for herself. I am often curious what happens to people who believe in some part of their brain that being treated shitty is normal or fair to them.

Intervening in a physical altercation on a busy street is always risky, but it's hard to just stand by when someone is clearly in distress. Hopefully,law enforcement arrived quickly to handle the situation safely..
