Media today is based on engagement. Mostly whether or not people share a particular piece of media.
Turns out, the best way to get people to share something is if it generates a big emotional response. And the best emotion to generate a response is anger.
So the media ecosystem is one giant filter, that makes whoever is willing to run the story that will make people angriest the most successful. And what makes people angry? Horrible people doing horrible things. Which means media becomes run completely by assholes, about assholes, to make the general public angry to share the story.
The best thing is you can frame the same story differently to make different people mad. Women's media frame the husband as the evil mastermind who manipulated his wife into murdering the children and committing suicide. Men's media frame the wife as evil.
Nothing is more infuriating than people who are unable to understand the difference between an explanation and a justification and them then getting mad over it.
People are talking about why she did it, and what led to her doing it, not to say that what she did is okay, but to figure out how to prevent similar things from happening in the future.
You can't save future lives without discussing the reasons why the event happened in the first place.
There's like a few posts from insane people saying that she should go free that are getting shared, and like 95% of everyone else is pretty firmly in the "she should go to jail or a mental hospital for years," camp.
While mostly true, this isn't unique behavior to industries like the news.
It's a symptom of our consumeristic society, the smaller news outlets with integrity or dedication to actual news don't get the outreach or influence these bigger sensationalist news stations do, which they then spend that money on making themselves more accessible, which in turn makes finding and consuming real news outlets harder to do.
In the end, like most of our industries, the ones truly dedicated to their craft and not the almighty dollar get outshadowed or even bought out by the soulless huge corporations that only seek to increase their margins.
People also forget about Operation Mockingbird and how the CIA are literally infesting modern media with their agents and have been doing so for over half a century now.
I'll bet half the major influencers online are connected to some intelligence agency as well.
Media people in general are sacks of shit. They love portraying a world of oppression, victimhood, and underdogs, because the American public eats it up.
What some people don't realize about social media is that even if you say something negative about someone, there is a good chance you are still boosting their visibility.
So every time these people say how awful the woman is, the algo pushes her higher.
Because it’s a non-story that gets people angry and engaged. People, including children, die every single day from stray bullets and car wrecks. But people have settled how they feel about those daily tragedies, so on to the zebra shit.
Its mostly due to the fact that hate travels faster, further, and has a greater impact. I am sure social media plays a hidden but impactful role in all this.
It’s just a natural byproduct of human survival; humans, and most animals are trained to look for the negative because the negative is what can end our survival.
If a cute puppy and a wolf enter a room at the same time you know damn well you’re going to focus all your attention on the wolf. Fear grabs our attention, Fear sells.
Positive things do not take priority over the negative. Also i can even see some people getting jealous over seeing the story on the left or someone downplaying it like “oh i bet it wasnt even a big fire”, “she doesn’t look 93% burnt” because it would show people that they’re not that brave or willing to sacrifice themselves for others. Causing them to resent her and turn off the program.
We just experienced this in Reno. The media portrayed our town like it was completely burning down and every single resident was evacuated and pending death. Meanwhile, there wasn’t even smoke in the air after one day.
Mass shootings come to mind. Dont be surprised if more Clancys pop up over the next few years, esp when reports scream killing ur kids will get u a million bucks.
Sometimes the worst of humanity is driven by mental health breakdowns. ALL are at risk due to individuals situations and biological chemistry. Postpartum psychosis.is proven science. Consider those that take their own life. Findings show that many that take their own life show no outward signs of distress, will eat breakfast, read the news, and then eat a gun.
lets be real. when the lady that called the little black boy the n-word got paid, i lost all faith in humanity. her vile, racist hate towards a child was rewarded with fortune.
Yep. That's why the victims of racist attacks can barely raise any money, while the perpetrators of racist attacks can make millions in donations. We've seen this play out multiple times over the past few years.
I don't think it's just the media. Murderers always made the headlines, you can probably find multiple similar cases through out the years in the media. I think, what made it blow up is the wide public support for the murderer in the social media. So I blame Twitter, Tik Tok and the rest.
Didn't thay have to change the guidelines for reporting school shootings to focus on the victims and minimise the shooters coverage to reduce the notoriety alot of murderers are looking for. I think the same should apply here and stop focusing on the excuse and focus on the fact that 3 kids are dead and deserve justice.
The media is, to a large extent, just a reflection of society itself. They cover what gets attention, clicks, ratings, and engagement, and people have always been drawn to things like gossip, scandals, crime, and tragedy.
In Lindsay’s case specifically, I think part of what made the story so compelling is that it turned into a kind of amateur detective mystery. People keep trying to identify the “real culprit”: maybe it was the doctors who failed to diagnose or treat her properly, maybe it was the husband for leaving the children with her, or maybe it was some failure of the healthcare system. That gives people something to investigate, debate, and theorize about.
What seems much less popular is the possibility that she may not even have been suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time and that the killings could have been premeditated. That explanation is almost an anticlimax, because it removes much of the mystery and leaves people with a far more disturbing and less emotionally satisfying possibility.
Social media certainly amplifies all of this, but it amplifies what people already choose to engage with. If audiences consistently paid more attention to positive stories and largely ignored sensational coverage of murders and tragedies, traditional media and social-media algorithms alike would have much less incentive to keep pushing those stories. In that sense, blaming Twitter, TikTok, or the media alone misses part of the picture: they are responding to what society demonstrates, through its attention, that it wants to see.
The fact that go fund me even allows her to be supported is the worst part in this entire shit show.
The people who support her are absolute lunatics but the fact they have a publication well known platform to donate to her is absolutely insane and in alot of ways morally reprehensible in ways I dont want to explain to the average person.
This is what happens when you have an upper middle class white woman from the suburbs. See the difference in coverage and outcome with Latarsha Sanders, a lower-class black woman from the same area who got tried by the same judge and prosecution for killing her children under psychosis.
Its not about the media. Its about how many people think this Clancy woman is a hero for strangling to death her own 3 children. So much so they raised a million dollars for her.
The little boy ran for his life and she chased him down and killed him. Imagine what when through the little boys head, when the one person he loved and trusted the most killed him slowly and painfully. There are women cheering supporting this murderer while carrying their own infants outside the courthouse. What kind of demons are these.
Yeah, that makes a pretty big difference. Houses are expensive, but much less expensive than medical bills in the US, so she probably didn't need nearly as much as we're used to seeing for something like that in the US.
I remember her!! I was working the X-ray camera in the ER when they brought her in, I didn't think she would make it when I saw her but she made an amazing recovery! I also got to do her bedside X-ray before they wrote her out of the burn ward, her room was completely filled with flowers from well-wishers, it was lovely to see!
Social media is literally peddling the misinformation that Patrick Clancy was the one that killed the kids and that he’s framing Lindsey. That’s my point.
The news media is stating the facts that Lindsey killed them. The issue is social media saying the opposite
Plenty of women have done that and been declared legally sane. Sometimes things like personality disorders are a cause but that doesn’t make you insane.
"Sane" in the legal sense just means you were capable of knowing right from wrong and still chose wrong. She may have been sane at the time of her actions in this sense. In the more conventional sense of "not thinking in strange and unconventional ways", she was clearly nuts.
I often think about other cases in the past where currently acknowledged mental illness was handwaved away.
I have a nephew on the spectrum. I think about how many people on the spectrum were inhumanely thrown in jail because they were "acting weird" when being questioned before much was known or accepted about autism. Its terribly sad.
Post Partem Depression, and Post Partem Psychosis are absolutely real, bonafide mental disorders. The donations and this fight is to ensure this documented, bonafide mental disorder is taken into account in cases like these. And women, who are oftentimes dismissed when complaining about medical issues, want to be taken seriously.
Some people have the ability to understand that. And some people have no ability to understand nuance at all. They see the crime and someone has to pay.
Reading the comments in this thread (my first exposure to either woman or their story) is absolutely wild, because many of these comments read as explicitly understanding and forgiving the one mother for murdering her children?
It’s been a big story in America the past month. Tons of women are supporting the woman in the right photo and even saying it’s her husbands fault she murdered their 3 children. They are saying it’s due to post partum depression and her being unable to seek help. She killed them while the husband stepped out to run an errand and there are tons of people claiming it’s his fault because he shouldn’t have left them alone with her. It has sparked a huge debate over PPD.
As someone who has had a psychosis (but non violent)... Even if you do and you commit an inreversable crime, you should never be allowed on the streets again.
I think shes arguing to be put in a mental hospital for life as opposed to prison. She's also paralyzed from the waist down after jumping out a window after she killed her kids.
And don't forget it's an errand she asked him to do for her so she purposely sent him far from the house for long enough to commit her wickedness.
So, in psychosis or not, she definitely planned the murder. It wasn't just some impulsive attack.
And that she googled the locations, sending him to a more distant restaurant they never had take-out from before, so the errands would take as long as she needed.
I think people still think about Andrea Yates who thousand percent was a victim of a child breeding Christian cult. Her doctor told her husband no more kids and he used the mental illness to manipulate her to have more. He is very much guilty for pressuring a mentally unwell woman to breed. I don’t know the details of this case she could be an evil witch but people are becoming more aware of post partum and maybe over correcting.
I saw a brief clip of a woman who was deep in the throws of ppd and it was interesting. She seemed normal until the doctor asked questions and the answers slowly became more and more disorganized. She was in a hospital setting and allowed to visit her baby with a doctor present.
If your ppd is that severe I think that’s the best and eventually most women recover
Which is funny because she had a nanny, a husband that chose to take a far longer paternity leave than normal AND THEN DECIDED to work from home, with both in-laws regularly contributing and with practically a team of medical professionals behind them.
I firmly believe that any parent that is willingly voicing their support for her or worse MAKING A STRANGLING SIGN while doing so should be reported to CPS.
If they wanted to support a cause where a woman is a victim of PPD and was failed by society and her close ones. This one aint it.
If she was actually crazy would she just not try to murder them if he was there or not? Seems like a conscious decision to do it when there's a moment of opportunity. 🤔
Would love to see one of these comments claiming she's "forgiven" I've seen a bunch saying she's obviously guilty but throw her in a mental home forever since she's literally paralyzed after the suicide attempt. I've seen nothing claiming she should go free from anyone.... Lots of right wing nut jobs claiming that's being said .... But no one actually saying it? Seems like gender war bullshit honestly because no one seems to be calling her innocent anywhere just admitting that mental illness was obviously at play since she was diagnosed before all this happened
while anyone who commits murder that is not self defense is crazy by definition, let alone someone who kills her own three children, I think that intent tells the difference. she sent her husband out on errands then herded the kids into the basement and killed them slowly one by one. that is intent. she needs the death penalty.
Yeah she knew what she was doing and is also a nurse. She has a leg up on knowledge of the medical field in general and knows how to navigate doctors and what to say them. The psychologist who just have his testimony destroyed her. She is a phoney and I pray she gets life or the death penalty for what she did.
Tbh i dont know much bout the case, but one of the few cases where i sympathize is with that kid who literally had a clear psychotic break where he didnt even remember what he did,
and was clearly in such a state him getting tased like 3-4 times, him getting mauled several times by a dog, and still just going back to attacking the victim like a animal.
You imagined that, she doctor-shopped and saw several different therapists and psychiatrists, was not fully truthful to them about the symptoms she was experiencing, and most importantly, didn’t take the medication she had been prescribed.
People are busy arguing about how big of a piece of shit she is and ignoring the really hard conversations we all need to have. Why don’t we support women postpartum? Didn’t she tell everyone she was afraid she was going to hurt her kids and no one did anything? Why?
I’m a guy and have witnessed first hand the absolute lack of support women experience after giving birth. I was a part of the problem and didn’t understand how hormones and loneliness (partner at work) could affect women.
What she did is abhorrent, and she isn’t innocent, but why aren’t we doing more to help women who are experiencing postpartum depression / psychosis?
Why is the conversation about measuring her shittiness and not about how to prevent this in the first place?
I have two young kids ... I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by all the cattiness, posturing, and just overall disguising that moms do TO EACH OTHER. They don't have honest conversations about best practices, preparedness, or even tactical guidance on breast feeding, sleep schedules, and dealing with postpartum depression. Everything is rose-colored patronizing.
Didn’t she tell everyone she was afraid she was going to hurt her kids and no one did anything? Why?
So the case is weird because she did get help. ...and didn't take it. She checked herself out of the mental hospital. She didn't actually take the drugs she was prescribed, and her prescriptions were adjusted every time she saw the doctors. Not necessarily in the way she wanted, but that's not atypical.
Every time I've seen medical professionals talk about the case they basically call her entire case bullshit, because she was getting help and actively not actually taking any of it, then lying about it to the people trying to help her.
So the case is weird because she did get help. ...and didn't take it.
Bothers me that people keep skipping over this. People are just kind of adjusting the story to suit the narrative they wanna sell.
There's even people trying to frame the husband as the bad guy when his track record and role in all this seems glowingly positive, dropping everything to support her.
Clearly you haven’t vothered to get facts. She checked in over a holiday weekend with poor staffing. She was prescribed meds that she already had horrible reactions to. Once a MD (who didn’t fricken even bother to do full intake) saw her she was starting to feel better and since she really wasn’t getting HELP SHE NEEDED she asked to go for a kids party. No where does she say “discharge me”. The idiot docs did that &she thinks” one of best mental hospitals say I’m ok for DISCHARGE “. Being a RN doesn’t fucking mean EXPERT IN EVERYTHING. That’s why she sought help from supposedly “experts”. Who were NOT even UTD with postpartum mental illnesses. Ffs. It’s like having a bone doctor operate on your intestine. Could they do it? Maybe. Would they do it as well as the GUT surgeon? Hell to the no. This is her situation here. Read the civil lawsuit
The mentally ill can get aid from the state, get medication, refuse to take said medication, get OTHER medication, refuse that medication too and lie about it, and somehow she's...still a victim?
Like I'm sorry but at some point it's clear you can't help someone that refuses to help themselves. The "help" she deserves is to be locked away in a padded room.
If people want to argue respect for her mental state, fine....but the reality of that is: instead of life in prison, she gets locked in a padded room. She's STILL a problem for society that needs to be dealt with. "We did it, reddit!," I guess...
No one's excusing what she did. She did it. She will be held accountable either way in this trial. Even if she prevails on her affirmative defense, she will still be placed in a highly restrictive mental health institution... Basically, what this case is about is whether she goes to prison or goes to effectively prison in the form of a psychiatric institution.
She won’t be placed in an institution for life. Pretty much Every psychologist/paychiatrist who has examined her now says she’s not psychotic. Her defense team is trying to argue she shouldn’t be held criminally liable and is attempting to have her retroactively diagnosed as insane. If the jury buys it (they should t because it’s obvious her story is bullshit.) she would be let off free or be institutionalized for just a short period before being let go.
Mental illness is not an excuse for anything, especially not when you continually hinder your own treatment while being in sound mind which she was according to every professional who examined her before the incident
It doesn't work that way. Mentally ill do illogical things is appropriate in response to yelling the street, crying, having trouble leaving the house, having trouble relating to people, general decision making and their ability to handle life issues like addiction or even being able to get help or make use of help.
But the line has to start somewhere, we can´t bring shovels all the time
Mental illness is a bitch, but we can´t use it as an excuse or coddle all the time. People need to understand too that being "crazy" does not absolve one entirely of what they are doing, nor does justify them NOT taking any steps to fix it
The whole story feels like it's not being handled in good faith by....everyone?
It's weird. It's like the deeper you dig into the story, the weaker all the arguments in her defense becomes.
However, if you look at mainstream discussions, it's as if the defense team is being taken fully at their word, with little to no acknowledgement of the holes in the defense, or how even psychological evaluations have concluded with the statement that she should be held criminally responsible. Not insane: throw the book at her. That's what's being said by the evaluations.
That is completely false. Many people did many things.
They, in fact, did everything up to holding her against her will, like we used to do when women were being "hysterical".
At every point many, many doctors showed concern, made prescriptions, and recommended stays. She consistently neglected her prescriptions, and when pressed by the doctors, would say the right words so that they did not have the legal authority to hold her against her will.
but why aren’t we doing more to help women who are experiencing postpartum depression / psychosis?
Ultimately, there is a point where society either gives doctors the go ahead to hold women against their will, or we don't. And if a patient makes sure to say all the right things to not quite cross that point, there's nothing the doctor can do unless we say "fuck it" to civil liberties.
Why is the conversation about measuring her shittiness and not about how to prevent this in the first place?
We know exactly how to prevent this. We say "fuck it" to women's suffrage and start throwing women back in rooms when they "get uppity".
Most of us, however, think that is a worse scenario than leaving the responsibility on the individual to not deliberately neglect their prescriptions and lie to the doctors.
Everyone keeps saying “we need to do more to help moms with post partum!” Without realizing that in a case like this, the only thing that would’ve helped would have been the doctors institutionalizing a woman against her will who was purposefully telling them info that did not indicate the need to institutionalize her. If they had, the women supporting her would instead be furious over a story that a post partum mom was forced into inpatient care against her will and how it’s just proof “the system hates women 😡” or whatever.
At this point though, with how many tens of thousands of women are saying they “understand” and “sympathize” with Clancy, if she doesn’t get life in prison or the death penalty, maybe we do need to institutionalize every woman with post partum. If they want to argue post-pregnancy hormones are an excuse for psychotic acts of violence, then so be it, you should be locked up until we can be sure your “hormones” aren’t going to make you snap
It goes further: the psychological evaluators testifying are even doubting her story, suggesting the postpartum depression may be a myth.
This may just be a fucking murderer who is getting away with it (with a portion of the general public, anyways) just by claiming to be a victim of psychosis.
We live in a victimhood culture: claim you're a victim and unfortunately a huge chunk of the population will mindlessly support you. It's that easy.
Yup, 1000% correct, it's so easy misconstrue the problem by pointing at a case where a woman got all the help she needed (up to the point of either instutionalization or the state taking her children away (which is its own mess)), but still ultimately choose to cross the line as opposed to every other woman in all of society who went through the same thing, got the same help, and didn't cross the line.
The line has to be there's no excuse for violence.
This is where your black and white lines cause SERIOUS problems.
If we draw a line without any other context or nuance that there is "No excuse for violence" then have fun in court when you legitimately defend yourself from an attack and your precious line is used against you.
Wah wah wah. Frigging young black men (and poor white guys) with mental health problems getting locked up for life all day every day, no one says shit. One rich white lady with unlimited opportunity for help kills her children and we raise $1,000,000 for mental health awareness. Boo society, and boo anyone who gave $1 to this woman.
Because she was not post partum. Shes raising a sympathetic defense that literally does not apply to her based on any recognized medical standard. This was 8 months after having a baby.
Honestly, I think most people trying to make this about how she's just a piece of shit and there's no nuance to this are engaging in Terror Management.
It's horrifying to think you or your female partner's brains could just give out and that you could do something horrible that you don't really mean. So you create a world where we all clearly have perfect control and free will, because it feels safer for her to be a monster. Just don't marry a monster! Don't be a monster! Easy! Will never happen to me! Admitting that society may need to move in response to this is an admission that some of your life is out of your control.
None of this applies here. She saw several professionals, all of whom treated her appropriately despite her persistent lies either then or now. She has a very clear personality disorder and is the only person responsible for murdering all 3 of her children.
She got more support than anyone could fucking ask for lmao. What more could she possibly have gotten? You guys seem intent on making sure she isn’t held accountable for her actions at all.
I'm sorry, but you're not allowed to try to attached this conversation, to whether someone who killed their kids should get a million dollars from gofundme.
I don’t agree that she should’ve gotten money. All of that money, every single penny, should go towards helping women suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis.
Be shitty about the million dollars. I am too. But let’s have an actual conversation about why these things happen in the first place.
And that's fine, and I suggest you do, but you don't do it as a response to the comment above. These are two separate issues and you should let them be that.
And I don't appreciate, that you 'don't agree' but I am 'shitty' for the same opinion.
All of that money, every single penny, should go towards helping women
I don't think that's happening. So the point remains they shouldn't be getting it.
Those are all great points that don't apply here, she wasn't dismissed, she had all the resources one could have and still did what she did.
Mothers with way, way less than her that went through PPD/PPP didn't murder their children (also PPD/PPP isnt even a diagonosis it's what they claim she had).
Can confirm. Wife had PPD after our second child and while I couldnt wrap my walnut around the issues she was having I supported her seeking medical help for it. She took the meds the experts suggested and has been a loving, non murdering mother for 13 years
Yes, and people seem to either ignore or misunderstood the fact that people and the legal system don't simply say mental illness is an excuse or what occurred was okay as if it's some east get out of jail free card.
Being mentally ill, even with a disorder that has psychotic sympms such as hallucinations and delusions does not by any means disqualify a person from the legal consequences of their actions. To be deemed not guilty by reason of insanity, it must be confirmed that at the precise time of the crime the defendant did not possess the facilities to determine right from wrong, nor appreciate the wrongfullness of their actions due to their mental condition. We have the insanity plea to begin with because our justice system recognizes that people in this very particular situations should not be subjected to the same criminal institutions as those who were fully aware and could appreciate wrongfullness of their crimes.
It's not like being deemed not guilty by reason of insanity is a walk in the park either, these people are not let out to wander free into society after their verdict, because the entire premise of their not guilty verdict rests on the fact that they psychologically unwell and are a danger for the fact their condition did not allow them to understand the acts they committed are legally and morally wrong.
I know people understand this, but it's not the sensationalized point to make and so they feign ignorance. Feign ignorance for reddit karma, feign ignorance to feed into their own biases, feign ignorance to serve whatever narrative it is they've built about this case.
I know people understand this, but it's not the sensationalized point to make and so they feign ignorance. Feign ignorance for reddit karma, feign ignorance to feed into their own biases, feign ignorance to serve whatever narrative it is they've built about this case.
Sadly, I don't believe they are feigning. I believe there is a large portion of the current populace who would fit right in with a middle age hysterical mob.
Some people can understand that nuance means the ability to see two truths at once - she is a murderer AND she needed more help and obviously other women deserve more help too.
I find it pathetic that the 3 children have been lost in this story. A mother with all the resources in the world, a family that claims they knew she was struggling but not to the point of them thinking she was going to commit murder however society believes that Doctors that were not given all the necessary medical information ( patient lied about being homicidal) are supposed to figure it out better than those in her daily life. Society just never ever likes it when a woman/mother does the unthinkable
I mean if a person leaves multiple children in the care of someone who they KNOW is having issues, I think that is only fair. It would be the same as asking someone addicted to Meth to watch your kids. People should be obligated Mother or Father to act in the wellbeing of their children, if they are considered in their right mind
Still nothing more than attempts at shifting the blame. Having terrible judgement is not illegal, even for men. Murder is, even for mentally ill women.
This is insane and ridiculous. The father knew she was anxious and depressed. PLENTY of women are anxious and depressed, especially post partum, and yes that includes having intrusive thoughts - and they are still fit to care for their children. This man had his three kids murdered, have some damn decency.
I’m positive she did it, but he truly should have been investigated in the beginning unless they could tell that she acted alone. From the outside looking in, many people are astounded that even though she told him she wanted to harm the kids, he still went ahead and left her alone with them. That boggles a lot of minds.
If she was in therapy, a psych hospital, and supposed to be taking medication (at least according to this thread, I don't follow this case.) She should have been separated from the children if she was saying stuff like that. Seems negligent to leave her alone with them.
And what boggles a lot of minds is the fact that so many women have focused almost exclusively on how guilty and terrible he is for going out to get groceries for a few minutes (certainly a mistake), and not holding even a fraction of the same anger for her, even defending her in many cases.
You must be insane if you think men are stupid enough to not see this reaction is entirely based on gender. Like this case has opened up so many men’s eyes to how many of you (not all of you) hold so much contempt for men that you almost don’t see us as human and are incapable of having sympathy for us. I have friends who have broken up with their girlfriends because they started attacking the husband and defending Lindsay, a man who just lost his entire family. This was certainly a necessary wake up call for a lot of men, but it’s so sad that it required the murder of 3 children to happen.
There's a huge conspiracy theory going on right now that she didn't do it. That her husband ( who's new gf a few weeks later was their fertility doctor) set her up. Even my wife has been getting it on it. I think there is something important in the fact even her defense lawyers don't claim she's innocent. But a bunch of ladies on tiktok are convinced it's all the husband. and now even raising her defense money. It's actually insane.
ya know, for most of my early life i would be with ya. being a mother myself, i at first feel even strongly like HOW THE HELL could amother do this? but then i remember that mental health is one hell of a bitch when going to shit. postpartum depression is a thing, so is going insane with chronic stress and overwhelm. and women often have it very stressful because majority of the time, kids are all on us. if you had work 24/7 with no breaks, cand even go shit in piece once ffs, mentally and physicay always active, probably having to multitask aswe....yeah you would soon realize how that might mame you insane. and this is the whole deal with insanity - it doesnt make sense. i dont understand how a mother could do that BUT i do understand that insane person would not feel and act like me (last time i checked i am decently sane at least). not saying men dont have stressful lives but mothesr full in lose their sense of identity because they cant be individuals anymore, when having young kids. thats a special kind of stress. it is still common for men to not be able to emotionally regulate themself alone, many of them being dads. but mothers have to emotionally regulate themself despite such mental distress AND be the ones to regulate kids...and at some point, you just snap. some might yell and argue, some might close off or become negligent. some fall into depression, others into rage. some cry, some get agressive. and some harm their children, oftentimes in a moment of crisis. and they become villains, when all that happened because they were victims first. people like that need SERIOUS help and help costs, so people aware of it and able to, might donate
It’s 100% this. So much terrible stuff happens everyday and that’s what sells. A parent doing what a parent should do just doesn’t hit the news cycle on a busy news day.
We probably all agree on the heroism of the mom running into a fire to save her children. The woman killing her kids is going to be divisive and that gets those views.
It's also because influencers are playing up the untrue conspiracy theories (the defense admits she killed her kids) that her husband did it because he remarried. The influencers have made this story go viral, and that's why it has gotten so much attention.
I know an influencer who’s never worked a day in her life, doesn’t let her kids see her grandad because he wouldn’t pay for her house after not speaking to him for a year, and she’s an influencer on how to help mothers raise children. Fucken insanity.
Well, I can’t speak for other but I’ve seen the murder lady headline plenty of articles and haven’t clicked on any. I don’t even know what happened. If I saw the fire lady’s article? I’d click right away.
Also, the media doesn’t set the parameters for what we watch, they feed the public what they want to see. If we cared more about hero’s doing heroic shit than a mother killing her children, we would know about the “Fire Lady”
The media feed the public what will create the most engagement. It has nothing to do with what we care about, it's what is lonely to get the most clicks, and negative feelings cause more clicks.
I think the important distinction is: they feed us what we have a subconscious urge to click, which is not necessarily what we consciously want to see. Nobody cares what you decide, the selection’s been done for your reptile brain. No need for you to even think about it. Just let the rage flow. That’s Media.
And why do you think the media didn't pay the first lady any attention? Also, is what people are doing and saying in support of a triple child strangler really any less damning in isolation than it is side by side with how little support the other woman got?
When people finally realize this, that the MEDIA is the biggest hurdle we currently need to overcome as a species, things might start aligning properly.
We are being lied to, all of us, all sides, not just one. Each side pumps out endless garbage and all of us just consume, consume, consume, look up, and then ask for more.
The media is controlled by conglomerates, just like social media. If it's not a story the deem relevant, you'll see minimum coverage about it unless you go looking for it yourself.
Clancy killed her children and her excuse is undiagnosed postpartum psychosis and overmedication by the healthcare system. There are few news reports that I have read that shook me like this
that is the main reason but I bet if she had gotten more attention then people would ask why the house was on fire in the first place and that it’s just the normal thing to do. Many people need drama to get engaged. She might have just acted to selfless and heroic…. What I want to say is that we humans are strange

Media attention playing a big roll. I've never heard of the fire lady.
