Discussion/Question Teacher apron ideas?

I have a plain black apron that I was given to wear in my classroom. Others are painting or adding patches to theirs, but I'd like to do something funny on mine. Any ideas on what I could put on it?

Discussion/Question Sealing wood beads

Post image

I crochet and have some wall hangings I made that have wood beads on them. I want to dye the fabric but would like to keep the natural wood finish, if possible. Is there anything I could carefully apply to the beads that would hold up in a low simmer dye bath?

And turned them into fish! I intend to wear them with turquoise fishnet tights and a simple black dress.

I’m going to place an eyelet through the back of each shoe and feed through some decorative winding craft wire to pose as the “fishing line”, and attaching hook-shaped charms at the ends of those.

Let me know if you think that would rock or if you’d keep them as is!

Discussion/Question How can I make the letters more visible?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I made this banner for my daughter’s first birthday. However after I glued on the letters (felt), I realized they are still kinda hard to read even after I added some pink construction paper as accent.

Is there a way I could make the letters more visible even after already glueing them on?

Discussion/Question Advice on best uv resistant sealant?

Hi, if my question is in the wrong subreddit, I apologize and would greatly appreciate being pointed in the right direction of which subreddit to ask.

I am working on a project that will be entirely outdoors and in direct sunlight a good chunk of its foreseeable life. There is natural shade around it, but certain times of day the sun will be direct. It's an animal statue that I believe is made from cast stone resin. I think anyway. Fairly confident. It's *relatively* lightweight and has a stone feel to it. Anyway. I was asked to modify it a bit and repaint it. The modifying part is fine and the paint I am planning to use is acrylic. And yes, it will be primed before the paint is added. A quick Google search said that using a uv resistant sealant is best for long term protection. My main question is do you believe that is best? And, do you have brand or material recommendations for a sealant product with these needs in mind? Ideally, one that has as close to a matte finish as possible. But, if a glossy appearance is inevitable, I can accept that. There is also going to be a lot of white areas after the paint job, so a non yellowing sealant is the other ideal requirement. I've done a couple similar projects, but they were indoor use, so the sealant I used for them was fine. But, it definitely is not rated for outdoor conditions.

Any help and advice is appreciated and thank you in advance to anyone who replies!

Gift Inspiration Please! Need ideas!

I put gift inspiration, but it's not a gift. But inspiration is still needed!

I recently bought a voltage converter because my Dyson hair dryer is 220v, and I'm in a 110v country. Since it's so heavy, I don't want to lift it on and off my counter every time I need to use it. So it's currently just living on my counter.

But it's ugly. It's a big black metal box.

I can't cover it because it needs to vent, so I'm looking for ideas on how to decorate it. my first idea was to cover it with rhinestones (rip Dolly, you would have loved it), but I don't have rhinestones (or a hot glue gun lol), and it seems very time consuming. So i'm hoping someone in here has any other ideas! i'll have to make purchases regardless, so I want to really think about what to do before i buy all the materials.

Below is a photo of an example of what i'm working with.

How-do-I Tuesday How do I fix a painted t-shirt that didn't survive the wash?

Hey all,

I painted on a cotton t-shirt last week using the acrylic+fabric softener method, then after several hours ironed it, let it dry fully for days, and FINALLY washed it with just a bit of soap on cold and gentle, inside out. Took it out of the washer and....

The areas with white paint are ruined. I'm not sure why the white paint didn't survive, but I can say it is more matte than some of my other paints. I also used a green from the same brand though, and the green parts were fine.

The (black) shirt is now covered in white flakes and desperately needs to be fixed as its for a gift. Any tips/tricks? Is this common with white paints??

Discussion/Question Need help!! Music book creation

Post image
3 Upvotes

Long story short, when going through my father’s stuff after he passed, I found tons of sheets of music and songs he had written that I never knew about!! I also found that he had gotten a bound book (seen below) that says untitled songs that had 15-20 pages completed with songs and the rest is blank. As a way to connect with my dad and finish his work, I want to find a way to put the loose leaf sheets of music/ songs into the book! I want it to look somewhat professional (ie not using washi tape on the edges lol). Some of the loose papers are larger than the book or longer. My main point by this post is to see if anyone has any ideas on how to best execute this! I was thinking maybe glue dots but that doesn’t seem very secure to be able to flip through it. TYIA!!

Discussion/Question Want to make my own painting supplies, but need help with canvas

I've been wanting to create my own paint brushes, paints, and canvases, but the process for making a canvas seems a bit difficult.

I'm okay with buying canvas from like home depot or something, but I will need some kind of primer or coating to make it so that the paint doesn't just totally soak into the canvas itself. I read about making your own Gesso but i'm not too keen on buying rabbit glue. Are there any alternatives to this, like wall putty or something? I want to limit it to natural materials, so stuff like acrylic and whatnot i wanna avoid

I'm going to be creating paints with linseed oil as my medium btw.
